Information we collect
We collect only what we need to create, deliver and support your gift.
- Contact details: your name and email address, whether you use a guest checkout or create an account.
- Gift content: photos, voice notes, names, nicknames, memories and questionnaire answers you provide to create a gift.
- Recipient details: the recipient’s name and, for printed gifts, their delivery address and phone number.
- Order and payment details: what you bought, amounts and payment status. Card and bank details are handled by our payment partners — we never see or store your full card number.
- Recipient activity: whether a gift was opened and any reaction the recipient chooses to send back.
- Technical data: device and browser type, approximate location from your IP address (used to show local currency and availability), and basic usage logs that keep the service secure and working.
How we use your information
- To create your gift, including generating characters, scenes, text and video from the content you provide.
- To process payments, send receipts and deliver printed products.
- To send you updates about your project, such as when a preview or your finished gift is ready.
- To protect gifts with private links and secret questions, and to detect abuse or fraud.
- To review content for safety, as described below.
- To provide support and improve how Cerro works.
We do not sell your personal information.
AI processing and your photos
Cerro uses artificial intelligence services to turn your content into illustrations, stories and video. To do this, we send the necessary photos, text and instructions to carefully selected AI providers who process them on our behalf.
We do not use your photos, voice notes or memories to train AI models unless you give separate, explicit consent. We choose providers whose terms do not permit them to use your content to train their own models.
Photos of other people
Gifts usually include photos of other people. When you upload them, you confirm that you have the right to use them for this purpose. Do not upload images of anyone who would not want to be included.
If photos include children, you confirm that you are their parent or guardian or have that person’s permission.
If you appear in a Cerro gift and want it removed, contact us and we will help.
Content review and safety
To keep Cerro safe, uploads and generated content may be checked automatically and, in some cases, reviewed by trained staff. We do not allow harassment, impersonation, sexual content involving minors, non-consensual imagery or illegal content, and we may remove content or close projects that break these rules.
Gift links and recipients
Each gift is available only through a private, unguessable link. You can add a secret question, set an expiry date or revoke the link at any time. Anyone who has the link — and the answer, if you set one — can view the gift, so share it only with the people you intend.
Recipients do not need an account. We do not ask recipients for personal information beyond any reaction they choose to send.
International transfers
Cerro serves people around the world, and our service providers may process information in countries other than your own, including Nigeria, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards to protect information that is transferred.
How long we keep information
We keep your gift content only for as long as it is needed to create, deliver and let you and your recipient enjoy the gift, and to provide support. You can delete a project at any time, which removes its photos and generated media from active systems.
We keep order and payment records for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting purposes. Backups are deleted on a rolling schedule.
How we protect information
Uploads and generated media are stored privately and shown only through short-lived, authorised links. Secret answers are stored in a protected, non-readable form. We encrypt data in transit, restrict staff access to what is needed and keep logs of sensitive actions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of a breach where the law requires.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, including under Nigeria’s Data Protection Act, the GDPR and similar laws, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate;
- delete your information or projects;
- receive a copy of your information in a portable format;
- object to or restrict certain processing; and
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To make a request, contact us using the details below. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Cerro is meant for adults. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create and purchase a gift. Recipients can be any age, and gifts may feature children when uploaded with appropriate permission.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Cerro grows. We will change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will let you know by email or on the site.
